The latest yachts in the Mystic range, the 55 with her classic transom and her sister the 57 with her retroussé stern, combine the very latest in design, construction and technology with beautiful styling and craftsmanship. The result? Effortless sailing and two classic yachts for the 21st century.
Designed by Dubois Naval Architects, with interiors by Redman Whiteley, the design concept evolved from the Mystic 60 ; the 55 and 57 were to be complementary to the larger yacht and further develop the theme of outstanding performance and the easiest possible sail handling.
In fact, both models promise performance more normally associated with racing yachts than elegant cruisers, yet both can be sailed easily and effortlessly by just two people. Remarkable!
The composite hull construction is of epoxy composite sandwich, reducing displacement yet increasing strength - with the added advantage to the owner of total freedom from osmosis. This highly advanced method of construction is more usually associated with race boats than cruisers, but the Mystic 55/57 is something really special!
The sail plan is based on a self-tacking Solent jib - an absolute blessing for all windward sailing - with the outer roller-furling headstay carrying a reaching genoa for off-the-wind sailing.
As there are no overlapping windward sails, full width swept-back spreaders avoid the need for running backstays - another real boon as the decks remain clutter-free!
Continuing the theme of design dedicated to ensuring sailing with the minimum of effort, there are power primary and halyard/reefing winches, with sail controls led back under deck to the deep, sheltered cockpit.
The interior layout is equally innovative. The navigation station under the sleek, low profile pilot-house is only three steps down from the cockpit, giving the watchkeeper all-round visibility and control of autopilot steering - yet another priceless benefit giving shelter from the elements in inclement weather! And there is a navigator s pilot berth outboard of the chart table. What s more, by deleting the separate crew cabin, the 55 and 57 - both with three cabins - have almost as much internal space for owner and guests as the 60.
Whilst both models have fold-down boarding steps /bathing ladder, if desired, the centre section of the 57 s reverse transom may be specified to lower by hydraulic rams to provide a particularly spacious bathing and boarding platform and this gives a particularly spacious bathing and boarding platform and, with storage built in for scuba tanks, divers can don their gear and swim directly from here with ease.
Whilst the retroussé transom is the principal difference between the 55 and 57, all Mystics are built to order, reflecting the individual requirements of each owner; there is great scope for tailoring your chosen yacht s equipment and interior layout to meet your precise needs.
